Mai-Hime Vs. Mai-Otome

Mai-Hime

Mai-Hime

Mai-Otome

Mai-Otome

I finally finished watching all of Mai-Otome, and the anime ended up being a lot better than I originally had thought. The reason I started watching Mai-Otome was because of Shizuru and Natsuki. Although their relationship only consists of subtle hints, all their moments were amazing. I want to write a blog post about their relationship later.

After watching Mai-Otome, I questioned if Mai-Otome was better because I saw Mai-Hime and if Mai-Hime was better than Mai-Otome. Both of these anime had their own special qualities, and I really enjoyed both shows.

SPOILER ALERT

Does Watching Mai-Hime First Affect the Enjoyment of Mai-Otome?

Mai-Hime came out a year before Mai-Otome, so Mai-Hime would be more like the original series. Mai-Otome is like an alternate universe of Mai-Hime which has lots of the same characters, but it also added a few new characters. The fun part of Mai-Otome is all the characters are similar between Mai-Hime and Mai-Otome, so you can still enjoy the Mai-Hime characters. Although, there are a lot of new characters too. In Mai-Otome there are a few small references about Mai-Hime in Mai-Otome. I feel like watching Mai-Hime made Mai-Otome better, but even without seeing Mai-Hime, Mai-Otome was still a great anime. Mai-Hime and Mai-Otome remind me of Kannazuki no Miko and Shattered Angels, but both the Mai shows were amazing while Kannazuki no Miko was great and Shattered Angels was one of the worst shows ever.

Differences between Mai-Hime and Mai-Otome

Plot

Obviously the difference between the two anime would be the plot. Mai-Hime focused on special girls with a mark on their body to indicate they are HiMEs which gives them special powers to control a fighting machine called a child to fight orphans. Mai-Otome focuses on a school that teaches virgin girls how to fight with nanomachines. Nanomachines are put into the girl’s body so they can fight and protect her master. She also acts like a maid and serves her master without question. I really enjoyed the plot of both series, so I can’t really say one is better than the other.

Main Characters

The three main characters in Mai-Hime focus on Mai Tokiha, Mikoto Minagi, and Kuga Natsuki. In Mai-Otome the three main characters are Arika Yumemiya, Nina Wang, and Mashiro Blan de Windbloom. The girls in Mai-Hime seemed more mature than the girls in Mai-Otome, not including Mikoto Minagi. Mikoto acts a bit more mature in Mai-Otome than in Mai-Hime. Both trios are great friends with eachother, but I enjoyed the Mai-Hime trio better. I liked how they were more mature and better at dealing with conflicts.

Mashiro

The one character in Mai-Otome that didn’t act like their character in Mai-Hime was Mashiro. In Mai-Otome, Mashiro Blan de Windbloom is the queen of Windbloom nation. Mashiro Kazahana in Mai-Hime is the one gathering all the HiMEs together. In Mai-Hime, Mashiro Kazahana was one of my favorite supporting characters. I liked how selfless, reserved, and polite she was. Mashiro Blan de Windbloom in Mai-Otome was the opposite of her counterpart in Mai-Hime. She annoyed me from the first scene. She is greedy and arrogant. She does get better as the anime’s plot continues, but Mashiro Kazahana was still a better character overall.

Tate Yuuichi and Sergay Wang

One difference between Mai-Hime and Mai-Otome was the main male interest. In Mai-Hime, Mai falls for Tate Yuuichi. Tate and Mai don’t get together at the beginning, but like everyone says, “There is a thin line between love and hate.” I never really liked Tate, but I did like him more than Sergay Wang. Sergay is a major in the Arati military, so he is close with the leader of the nation. He becomes the love interest to Arika and Nina, who are years younger than him. Nina is even his adopted daughter. He seems to have lingering feelings for Arika’s mother, but they only connection these two have is Sergay was creeping on Arika’s mother. He then starts having feelings for Arika later in the series. I personally thought it was really weird how they made him the male love interest. I personally think that could have been avoided, or they could have made a better choice. I believe it was to make more angst and fights between the two main characters, but in the end it was just creepy and strange.

Relationship between Shizuru and Natsuki

Shizuru and Natsuki

Shizuru and Natsuki

The main reason for why I watched Mai-Otome and Mai-Hime was for Shizuru and Natsuki. I had seen them around a lot in the yuri community, but I knew nothing about them. There were many differences between Natsuki Kuga and Shizuru Fujino’s and Natsuki Kruger and Shizuru Viola’s relationships, but I still enjoyed both immensely.

Natsuki Kuga and Shizuru Fujino are the two original characters from Mai-Hime. Natsuki and Shizuru have a strong relationship. They both trust each other a lot. Natsuki usually always went to Shizuru for comfort. In Mai-Hime, there were many subtle hints that Shizuru had hidden feelings for Natsuki, and it wasn’t until Natsuki saw videos that Natsuki realized Shizuru’s feelings. In the end of the series, Natsuki doesn’t confeirm or deny Shizuru’s feelings, but we do get a nice kiss scene. The hints are so much more subtle in this series than the Mai-Otome.

Natsuki Kruger and Shizuru Viola, the spin-off of Natsuki Kuga and Shizuru Fujino, are two of the best meisters in the Mai-Otome series. Natsuki and Shizuru are a lot more open about their relationship, and there are so many subtle hints about them being together. Natsuki and Shizuru seem to be together all the time, and lonely when they are apart. Natsuki gets jealous when Shizuru gives other girls attention, and Shizuru admits to being an Otome to protect someone special. I loved the relationship between these two character because it was a nice balance between obvious relationship and subtext.

I enjoyed all the Shizuru and Natsuki moments in both series. I feel if I had not seen Natsuki and Shizuru grow in Mai-Hime, I would not have enjoyed it as much when watching Mai-Otome. Neither relationship was better.

Which was Better Overall?

I have to say I like Mai-Hime better than Mai-Otome. I feel like all the characters were better characterized in Mai-Hime. I also am a bit biased on the fact that Natsuki is a main character in Mai-Hime and appears a bit less in the Mai-Otome series. I would defiantly suggest watching Mai-Hime first and Mai-Otome second.

Just Messing Around

I didn’t want to post much because I want to make a nice post about Mai-Otome when I finally finish it. I am on episode 18, so it will be soon. In the mean time I had fun making a new background.

Experiencing the World of Tap-Tap (Japanese Version)

Love_Live!_School_Idol_Festival_Title_Screen_2

Lately, the English version of Love Live School Idol Festival has felt a bit dull. The best part about the game right now is the new expert song for the event. The song is Binestu kara Mystery. Here is the song. It is fun because it is hard. This is also the first song to break the 500 combo limit. It took me a few tries to finally get a full combo, but it was exciting when I finally got it.

I’ve noticed that all the new songs that are coming out are not that difficult. There are a few tricky passages, but overall it is tame. The new expert songs that are coming out are all repeats. The part of the game I’m looking forward to the most is the new rare characters. I want all the new rare characters, so I’ve been saving up my friend points. It has been taking a really long time, so I decided to get the Japanese version of Love Live School Idol Project. I just got it two days ago and I’ve been having a blast. There are so many differences between the two. (Please keep in mind, I don’t know any Japanese, so I am just guessing what is happening.)

Medly Festival

Medly Festival

The first difference is the new kind of event that is out called Medley Festival. The event allows the player to spend a certain amount of life points to play either one, two, or three songs in a row. To begin, the player goes to the event page and clicks on the screen. Next they choose the level between easy to expert. Then decide how many songs to play. All the songs chosen are the same color, so you don’t have to worry about picking between color teams. Then you get the choice to get bonuses at the cost of money in the game. You can choose not to, and if you get lucky you might get a random bonus in the game. Then you play through all the songs you chose, unless you lose. The combo is held between all the songs and at the end you get your event points. It is a fun way to get rid of life points quick, and it is a lot of fun to get 800+ combos.

Another difference is the new ultra expert songs. They are faster and more challenging than expert. It has been fun trying those, but because I’m a low level I don’t get much bonuses to help. I have made it though a few, and it is quite rewarding. The daily songs seem to get an ultra expert and so does an extra daily song.

There are a lot more options for expert songs in this version. Also a bunch of new characters. It is really fun to get new characters I’ve never seen before, and I can finally get the new rare characters. There is an interesting new way to scout for characters too. There is a new system that gives you blue scout tickets. When you get five of these tickets, you get one new SR or UR characters. The chances are 80% for a SR and 20% for an UR. You are also given the option to just one blue scouting ticket to get an alpaca or teacher card to help boost your pre-owned characters.

I think the part of the game I’m enjoying the most is the new songs. There are a ton of them that I’ve never seen before. I like all the options in this version too, for the B-side. Although I don’t understand a bit of what is happening, I have enjoyed getting the Japanese version of this app because of the new aspects of the game and starting fresh is really fun.

Here is where you can get the information of how to get a Japanese iTunes account to get the Japanese version of Love Live, or just download the android link. CLICK HERE

I don’t own this image. I got it off zerochan.net

Because of the four hour long lab I had today, I want to make a short post. I just found out of Monday that Ohayocon is happening this weekend in Columbus, OH. I happen to be in the area, so my friend and I are hopefully going. This will be my very first convention, and I am really looking forward to the Love Live School Idol Project panel and the Warring Idols Panel. I will hopefully blog about the trip after it happens, or I will for Aesm or BroadwayOtakuFairy to take over while I sulk in a corner like Tamaki.

Information about Ohayocon can be found here.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

On a side note, I am currently watching Mai-Otome and I really want to write a post about Shizuru and Natsuki. They are so canon! …. And yes I might be slightly behind on the simlucasts, but I will catch up soon.

Manga Review: Twin Cake

Twin Cake Cover Susuran on the left and Kaede on the right

Twin Cake Cover
Susuran on the left and Kaede on the right

Manga: Twin Cake

Mangaka: Aoi Hana

Volume/Chapter: 1 Volume/ 7 Chapters + 1 Postscript

Year: 2011

Genre: Yuri, Romance, Idol

Where you can read it: Dynasty-scans [Translated by: Kawaii Scans]

Summary: Kaede Ousaka was enchanted by the model Susuran, so when Twinkle productions, the company that also produced Susuran, scouts Kaede, she immediately says yes. The company wants to sell Kaede by giving her jobs that show off her body, but Kaede refuses those jobs. Kaede doesn’t become popular after her debut, so she ends up doing desk work for the company. One day, Kaede was forced to becoming the manager of Susuran because Susuran’s other manager became ill. Kaede was excited at the aspect of finally meeting Susuran, but Kaede might be surprised how different her idolized vision of Susuran is compared to the real person.

Recommendation:

This is one of the many yuri manga I go back to when I want to read a cute yuri story. I would suggest this manga who enjoys developing feelings and doesn’t mind slight angst. There is a good amount of nudity in this manga. Also the ending chapter has a small sex scene, so if you don’t like that, you have been warned. This is not something to read if you are looking for gorgeous art. The art is simple and cute. The story in general is adorable. It is about two characters who connect over time and realize there feelings.

SPOILERS AFTER THIS POINT

Drawing Style: 6/10

The drawing style of this manga was average. I think it was simple and got the story across. All the characters were cute and I liked all the different facial expressions. It did have a few scenes where the angels were a bit awkward. In general, the art for this manga was average, but the mangaka defiantly pulled through during important scenes in the manga.

Characters: 7/10

All the characters in this manga were normal. They were all your stereotypical characters in most manga. The characters were lovable but nothing really stood out about the characters in general.

Main Characters:

Kaede Ousaka:

Kaede is a nineteen year old model who hasn’t hit it large in the industry. She really liked the model Susuran, so when asked to be a model, she accepted the job. She is tall and has large breasts. This causes many people to believe she should use her physical aspects to become a well-known model. Kaede doesn’t know anything about being a manager when she becomes Susuran’s manager, so Kaede becomes more like a gopher to Susuran. Kaede slowly develops her feelings for Susuran as she learns more about her. She is good at comforting Susuran when Susuran needs it. Kaede is driven to become a better manager for Susuran at the of the manga.

Susuran:

Susuran is a bit of a tsundere character. She has been in the industry since she was twelve, but she didn’t get many jobs between the age of twelve to nineteen. She suddenly was chosen to be the image model for a cosmetic company that sold really well after Susuran modeled for them. She is sometimes looked down on by other models, but she continues to stride forward. Although she doesn’t admit it easily, she enjoys the praise she gets from Kaede after doing a good job. Susuran has had problems with managers in the past. She later states that she only really pictures her first managers as her manager, and it is learned later that Susuran has a crush on this manager.

Plot: 7/10

This is a simple discovery of feelings, hiding feelings, then acceptance of feelings manga. The interesting part is that they are models. Like most manga with this plot, the Kaede has a deep admiration for Susuran that later becomes feelings of love. Kaede attempts to hide these feelings while Susuran sees her first manager again. Kaede tries to kiss Susuran multiple times, and Susuran notices every time. In the end Susuran is forced to choose between Kaede and her old manager, in which she chooses Kaede. Susuran tells Kaede she feels the same way, and they end up happy together. It never really explains how Susuran, who has loved her manager for years, would easily give up that love for Kaede. Susuran says its because Kaede knows the Susuran of today, but not much of Susuran’s contemplating is told since the whole story is in Kaede’s point of view.

How well the manga fits the genre(s) (Yuri/Romance): 6/10

The yuri aspect is held out the entire time. Like most yuri manga, all the characters introduced seem to all be lesbian, which isn’t that normal in the real world. The romance was cute, but standard. I did enjoy the build up between these two as they started to trust each other more.

Overall Opinion: 26/40

I enjoy this story because it is simple and cute. It is a standard yuri manga though. There is nothing that makes this manga extraordinary. I’ve read this manga a few times when I need some cute yuri story. I liked the characters because their relationship amused me.

Historic Anime/Manga/Visual Novel Couples

I wanted to write a blog post about my favorite anime/manga/visual novel couples that I believe deserve recognition. These couples have been through thick and thin and have still remained together. I will admit that some of these might not be “official”, but to the fans they are OTP (One True Pairing). This is not a list of my favorite couples of all time and these couples are not in order…well I do admit the last couple will by my favorite.

Winry and Ed from Full Metal Alchemist

Lucia on the left and Eliana on     the right.

First on the list is Lucia and Eliana from the manga Love Flag Girls!! I love this pairing because the couple is so much fun to watch. Eliana is super playful and Lucia just follows the flow.

You can read this manga on dynasty-scans.com

Riza on the left and Roy on the right.

The next couple is Riza Hawkeye and Roy Mustang from Full Metal Alchemist. This power team makes it on the list because of their teamwork and friendship. Riza always has Mustang’s back and visa versa. These two are amazing on the battle field and the trust they have in each other helps keep them both alive.

Ritsuko on the left and Sayo on the right.

This is Ritsuko Sakurai and Sayo Takanashi the Sweet Little Devil series. (I apologize for the photo’s quality, but I couldn’t get a better one.) I love this pairing because they have such a strong relationship. They have been best friends since childhood and are even closer now.

Ed is on the left and Winry is on the right.

Ed is on the left and Winry is on the right.

This is Edward Elric and Winry Rockbell from Full Metal Alchemist and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. These two are one of my favorite couples because these two have a strong relationship considering the circumstances. Winry is likes Ed’s rock that will always be there for him. Winry also isn’t a weak girl character. She takes care of Ed’s autoware and tries to get him to drink milk. Although they frequently get into arguments, not even distance can tear these two apart.

Sara is on the left and Kaede is on the right.

Sara is on the left and Kaede is on the right.

Sara Kitajima and Kaede Kitajima are from the Sono Hanabira visual novel series. Their story is called “Watashi no Oujo-sama”. Even though these two have the same last name, they are only cousins. The reason I like this pairing is the two characters within the pairing are amazing on their own, but together they are even better. Sara is a carefree girl who works as a model and Kaede is a stickler to the rules and shy. Sara is able to push Kaede to break away from the rules. However, Kaede is also strong on her own and protects Sara when necessary.

Important enough that she will take on destiny to try and stop the death of Madoka multiple times. No matter how painful the process becomes, she has accepted the task of saving Madoka Kaname. In the end, Madoka is not saved the way Homura had hoped for, and Madoka actually saves Homura. During this time, Madoka becomes a god and Homura and Madoka share a naked embrace. Sumi is on the left and Kinana is   on the right.

Sumi Miyako and Kinana Himefuji are from the manga series Wife Wife. The series is about these two starting to live together and become wife and wife, instead of husband and wife. These two have many adorable scenes together as they prepare to live together in the same home. Their personalities work perfectly together, and it’s hard not to fall in love with this pairing.

Harima is restraining Eri

                 Harima is restraining Eri

Harima Kenji and Eri Sawachika are the reason behind this blog post. These two are in the anime School Rumble. Recently, I happened to find funny video clips of these two in School Rumble, and those clips helped me remember why I love this anime. These two have the perfect chemistry even if one doesn’t realize and the other won’t admit it. They are a great comic duo, but they also have serious conversations together, even if one is disguised. I believe these two deserve to be on this wall because they are one of the funniest couples I’ve seen, and they are just so perfect for each other.

Kanade is on the right and Yukino is on the left.

Kanade is on the right and Yukino is on the left.

Kanade Sakurai and Yukino Sakurai are from the series Candy Boy. These two are twin sisters that are in love with each other. I know that this might seem weird, but I really enjoy this couple because their romance is so innocent. They have a bit of skin-ship, but all their interactions are harmless and adorable. The furthest the views see is the one girl kissing the other girl’s cheek, but by the time you see this scene you will have wished it was different. These two are adorable together and prove that love and romance doesn’t have to been shown through physical actions.

Hisa is on the left and Mihoko is on the right.

Hisa is on the left and Mihoko is on the right.

Hisa Takei and Mihoko Fukuji are from the anime Saki. Although these two don’t get much screen time, it doesn’t even take yuri goggles to see the bond between these two. As seen in the photo, Mihoko has two different colored eyes. Usually she keeps on of her eyes closed all the time to hide the difference because Mihoko is self-conscious. Hisa was the first person to complement Mihoko on her eye color saying they were beautiful and comforting her by saying rubies and sapphires are made of the same material. After that moment, Mihoko has always wanted to see Hisa to reply to her comment, but Hisa disappeared after that match of the majhong tournament. They finally met a few years later in the majhong tournement as team captains of different schools. There are only two times that Hisa opens up both of her eyes. Either when she is “getting serious” while playing majhong or when she is around Hisa. These two don’t need a lot of screen time to show that these two mean more than friendship to each other. (If they need more proof, the Saki fandom helps support these two a lot.)

Asuna is on the left and Kirito is on the right.

Kirigaya Kazuto, better known as Kirito, and Asuna Yuuki are from the anime series Sword Art Online. These two have been through many difficult situations together and survived them all. One of the best parts about this couple is their dedication to each other. Like most anime, the main guy character grabs the attention of multiple girls, but unlike most guy characters, Kirito notices their feelings and rejects them all for Asuna. These two have many cute moments throughout the series including having a cottage together, raising a child together, and other simple scenes mixed in between. The best part about their relationship is the amount of trust they have in each other. They both have each other’s back, but they also know when they need to let the other go and discover more about themselves. These two are a model of what couples should aim for because they are about perfect.

Shizuru is on the left and Natsuki is on the right.

Natsuki and Shizuru are from “technically” two different anime. Natsuki Kuga and Shizuru Fujino are from the anime Mai-Hime while Natsuki Kruger and Shizuru Viola are from Mai-Otome. These two series are in alternate universes, but they hold mostly all the same characters. I personally have only seen Mai-Hime at the moment, but I will probably modify this post after reading Mai-Otome. Personally I liked this power team because 1. Shizuru was a yandere, 2. Natsuki and Shizuru and both badass, and 3. Shizuru actually confessed to liking Natsuki within the series. I will admit that Natsuki doesn’t give a full reply, but everyone knows that it was probably a yes. Especially if you watch some Mai-Otome clips. These two have a special bond. Their friendship doesn’t require them spending a lot of time together. They both know that if they need comfort the other will help them. I really enjoy this couple and I am hoping Mai-Otome will feed more yuri scenes between these too. If not, there is still amazing amounts of fan fiction written about these two.

Citrus.(manga).full.1721973

Mei is in the back and Yuzu is in      the front.

Although this couple is still new, Yuzu Aihara and Mei Aihara make this list. These two are from the popular yuri manga Citrus. These two have the same last name because they are step-sister. These two are a great couple because they are both still figuring out more about themselves as individuals and as family members. They have gotten through a lot of different situations already, and they always manage to pull through.

Usui is on the left and Misaki is on the right.

Usui is on the left and Misaki is on the right.

Takumi Usui and Misaki Ayuzawa are from the anime and manga Kaichou wa Maid-sama! These two have a great relationship with trust, humor, and passion. Both of these characters are amazing, but when put together they are a dynamic duo. Usui’s teasing of Misaki never gets old, but it also shows how much he cares about her. One example is when Usui kisses Misaki for the first time and Misaki seems to freak out by the action, Usui kisses the male vice president of the student council to get Misaki to stop freaking out. He is really good at dealing with Misaki, but she still throws him for a loop at times. Misaki herself isn’t very honest with her own feelings, but once she figures them out, she and Usui’s relationship get ten times better. While I read this manga, I loved watching their relationship become stronger.

Chikane is on the left and Himeko is on the right.

Chikane is on the left and Himeko is on the right.

Personally, this is my favorite official anime yuri couple. Chikane Himemiya and Himeko Kurusugawa are from the anime Kannazuki no Miko. These two are shrine maidens who destiny is to awaken Ame no Murakumo to defeat the Oorochi. To save the earth, one of the girl’s must die at the hand of the other shrine maiden. This anime makes me like I’m riding an emotional roller coaster. One minute I feel really happy and the next I am shouting at the tv screen. The special bond these two goes further than their destinies as shrine maidens. In the anime, Chikane often sacrifices herself for Himeko’s sake. She allows Himeko to go out with Souma, Chikane’s rival for Himeko’s affection. The sacrifices Chikane make runs though out the series until the part where Chikane dies. Himeko doesn’t realize any other this at first, but at the end she gets Chikane to confess her feelings. Himeko finally realizes Chikane is her soul mate and they promise to find each other again. No matter what hardships happen to these two, they will always find a way to be together.

Kaon on the left and Himiko on the right.

Kaon on the left and Himiko on the right.

Kaon and Himiko are one of the many reincarnations of Chikane and Himeko. These two are from the anime Shattered Angels. I will tell you now, the only reason to watch this series is for Kaon and Himiko. The actual main characters gave me a headache. The best part of Kaon and Himiko is that they are actually lovers this time, so they make up for all the possible Chikane and Himeko scenes that could have happened in Kannazuki no Miko.

Kannazuki.no.Miko.full.254959

Because of these two’s popularity, the ending credits of this anime that show this image have become the staple from many other anime couples. This includes yuri, yaoi, and straight couples. One example is the NanoFate photo below this one.

Fate is on the left and Nanoha is on the right.

Akko is on the left and Mari is on the right.

Of course no historic couple list would be complete without my favorite official manga couple Akko Oohashi and Mari Kumakura from the series Girl Friends. As I stated in my manga review (Click here for the link), I love the plot of this manga. The way these two girl’s relationship starts from the very bottom and builds itself up is magnificent. Both girls have to go through the discovery of their own feelings and then the trouble of getting together as girl friends before their relationship really shines. The obstacles they had to go through to get to the point they are has made their relationship strong. Nothing will be able to get between this couple.

Nanoha on the left and Fate on the right. By: Tokoharu

I gave you a little sneak peek before by adding a photo of them into the Chikane and Himeko section, but here is their official addition to the Couples Hall of Fame. Nanoha Takamachi and Fate T. Harlaown are my favorite anime couple of all time. They are from the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha series. I might be a bit biased from the fandom, but I still loved this couple while watching the anime series. Nanoha and Fate have a special bond between them. Nanoha was able to save Fate from an abusive family situation, and Nanoha became Fate’s first friend. From the beginning, Nanoha admits that Fate is a beauty, she also wants to become friends with the girl with sad eyes right from their first encounter. In the first season, Nanoha is constantly thinking about Fate. As these two grow, Fate and Nanoha’s relationship matures with being co-workers and raising a daughter together. I swear these two are the most “official”/unofficial, YOU MUST READ BETWEEN THE LINES, couple ever, but I still love them to pieces. The amazing fan fiction written about these two makes up for the lack of actually romance in any of the anime seasons and movie. Hopefully, they will finally make these two official, but until then the only hope is to suck up all the NanoFate doujins, fan fictions, and photos that exist.

Sorry that one took a lot longer than I thought it would to make.

Musical Manipulation

K-ON! Girls

K-ON! Girls

Although anime music is fun to listen to on it’s own, many people like to manipulate the songs to fit their own interest. This is how we get anime remixes, nightcore, gender switched songs, covers. Each of these are activities fans enjoy to do to feel closer to an anime or just for fun.

Remix:

Anime song remixes/mash-ups are probably the most uncommon way to changing anime songs. Remixing requires a good remixing program and a musical ability to mix two songs together. When it is done really well it is amazing, but it ends in train-wrecks a lot. My friend, Issue.Shah, enjoys making his own remixes, and lately he has been taking anime instumentals and adding rap songs over them. It is really impressive, and I plan to share his music later.

Here is one of my favorite mixes: It is by Kino and it is a mix of Connect, the opening of Madoka Magica, and Be Starters, the opening of Mayo Chiki, mixed into one great song. Click Here to Listen.

Nightcore:

Nightcore is a specifically speeding up the speed of a song, and it also changes the pitch of the song. This is the easiest and most popular way to change an anime song. Simple music programs can be used to just speed up a song. It does take some listening to make sure the song isn’t to high or to fast. Usually people make interesting videos on youtube to go with their nightcore songs.

Here is a nighcore version of Courage the second opening for Sword Art Online II by StrikeKanata Nightcore NEW.

Gender Switch

For anime songs, people enjoy pitching the song up or down to make it sound like the opposite gender sang the specific song. This can easily be done using a simple music program, like Audacity. It is a little harder than nightcore because you should  make sure it doesn’t sound bad at the new pitch it got changed to. Some songs just don’t sound good pitched too. Gender switching usually happens for anime that usually has a group of a single gender group. One example is for the songs sung by the group µ’s from Love Live School Idol Project, many of their songs have male versions.

Here is a “male” version of Snow Halation from Love Live School Idol Project Season II (insert song), by zeir -chan.

Here is a “Female” Version of Futatsu no Kodou to Akai Tsumi from Vampire Knight opening 1, by Varian.

I believe there are less male versions made than female versions. I don’t listen to gender switched songs often, so if I am opening to learning more. Leave a comment on the bottom, and I will add it to this post and credit you.

Covers

There are many different kinds of covers people can make. A cover can either be sung or played by an instrument. For instrument covers, usually people have to write out the song themselves. It can be difficult or easy depending on who is doing it. A lot of people do drum covers and guitar covers. I personally find violin covers of songs interesting because I play violin. Anything that makes a sound can be considered an instrument too.

My two favorite instrument covers are a violin cover of Only My Railgun, the first opening of the Toaru Kagaku no Railgun series. It is by TAM TAMUSIC. Click Here to Listen

My other favorite is a cover of Cutie Panter, a µ’s song that is sung by the BiBi group within µ’s. I enjoy this cover because it is all played on a metal ruler. This is by 陳威. Click Here to Listen

Another way to cover songs is either singers sing the Japanese version of a song or they translate the song into another language and sing it. From personal experience, translating songs can be fun, but it is also difficult. Also it can be hard to find someone comfortable with singing the song. There are many English voice actresses/actors that sing English versions of anime songs they enjoy or worked in.

Here is a cover of Brothers by Vic Mignonia, the voice actor for Edward Elric from Full Metal Alchemist. Brothers is also from Full Metal Alchemist. Click Here to Listen

Here is a cover of Renai Circulation from the Bakemonogatari series. The lyrics are written by Y. Chang and the vocals are done by Lizz. Click Here to Listen

Here is a cover of Every Heart from Inuyasha. This is by Nylon Pink, but I am not sure how good this cover is. I don’t listen to fandubs of Japanese songs because I am scared it could be bad. Click Here to Listen

There are many ways to have fun changing anime music to fit different people’s preferences. It can be fun to try it and add to the collection.

Character Review: Paanya

Mashiro-Iro-Symphony-panya-inspiratieCharacter: Paanya

Anime: Mashiroiro Symphony

Voice Actress/CV: Sakura Harumi

Paanya a cute round cat-like creature that lives on the campus of Yuihime Girl’s Academy. She is taken care of the most by Miu Amaha. She is like the campus mascott, and her presence makes the anime cuter.

Rating

Appearance: 9/10

Paanya is an adorable ball of fluff. There is never a time she isn’t adorable. Not even when she is angry.

Personality: 9/10

I liked how they made Paanya act like a wild animal. Paanya lives at the school, so she doesn’t have an owner. She isn’t tamed, so when she needs to protect herself she does. The best part able Paanya’s character is she acts like a stray cat and isn’t automatically tamed.

How well the character’s CV fits the character: 6/10

Nothing really special about the voice actress that plays Paanya. She didn’t do a bad job, but she didn’t do exceptionally well either. I mean, all she was doing was making cute cat noises. The voice actress well for the role, but it wasn’t anything special.

Overall Thoughts: 24/30

I loved Paanya because she was adorable. She helped the story move along too by leading characters places. She probably ended up being my favorite part about the anime because the plot upset me so much. Paanya was the best part of the anime Mashiro-iro Symphony in my opinion.

Top 10 Male Anime Traps

2056324611_fb7c09c2a5

As I was searching for the top male anime characters yesterday, I decided that I should make a special list for just the beautiful male anime traps. These boys are just as beautiful as any girl anime character. Sometimes you don’t even see it coming. I tried to find a male and female photo for all of these, but some characters didn’t have any.

Here are my top 10 male anime traps.

Like before, the photos will have the character name, anime name.

10.

  Tatsukichi Hayama, MM!

MM! episode 05 picture 1

It was surprising to find out the best friend of the main character had his own fetish. I loved the personality change of this character when he dresses as his counterpart.

9.

Seishiro Kotobuki (Seiko), Lovely Complex

Seishiro Kotobuki (Seiko), Lovely Complex.     This character is really true to herself. She doesn’t care much about what others might think of her.

8.

Hiro, Himegato This character was funny to watch. It was fun to watch the interactions between this maid and his master.

7.

Mariandale

Mariandale, Ixion Saga DT                        I’ll admit that part of the reason I wanted to watch this anime was because I thought this girl was adorable. I was thrown for a loop when I found out she wasn’t a she. I still loved this character anyway, and the anime was funny too.

6.

Kaguya Arikawa, Himegato This anime was fun to watch. This character was always cheerful and made the anime more fun.

5.

Aoi Hyoudou, Kaichou wa Maid-sama!

Aoi Hyoudou, Kaichou wa Maid-sama!

Although it was hard for him at school to admit his love for cute things, he has been able to make his passion a sucess by becoming a popular internet model. Although Aoi can be a brat, he does know when passion matters more than people's opinions.

4.

Mariya Shidou, Maria Holic This trap was one of my favorites. He not only used his feminine charm to mess with a lesbian who got rashes with touching men, but he could get away with anything using his charm.

Although the one on the left is not Mariya, I believe this is what he would look like in male form.

3.

Hime Arikawa, Himegato

Hime Arikawa, Himegato

Although this feminine looking male was a bit hesitant at first, he found the pleasure of cross-dressing, and he enjoys it now even if he won't admit it.

2.

Akemi Yamasaki, Sasameki Koto Although this boy is a bit shy, he was able to build up the courage to cross-dress to try and attract the attention of the girl he loved. He is adorable when he cross-dresses on his first date with her too. This character is also amazing because he is able to become a successful model, even after his little accident.

1.

Nagihiko Fujisaki (Nadeshiko), Shugo Chara

            Nagihiko Fujisaki (Nadeshiko),                                           Shugo Chara

Nagihiko is my favorite trap because both his female and male forms are amazing. I fell in love with Nadeshiko when I first met her. She was amusing to watch because it seemed she knew everything, and her passion for cleaning was absolutely hilarious. When they took her away from the anime for a while, it was saddening. When Nadeshiko returned as Nagihiko, and the secret was out, I was shocked, and a bit worried about Nagihiko's character. In the end, Nagihiko being both himself and Nadeshiko was the best thing ever. I loved the episode where Nadeshiko returns to see Ami for the first time in forever, and Rima forces Nagihiko to switch between his two characters multiple times. Nagihiko has my respect as the top male anime trap of all time.
