Manga: Roundabout

Mangaka: Hiyori Otsu

Volume/Chapter: One-Shot/ 1 Chapter

Year: Japan: September 2011

Genre: Shoujo Ai, Romance, Drama, Slice of Life

Where you can read it: (Translated by: Lililicious)

The story focuses on Asami Kawahara as she is trying to get revenge on her girl friend. Back in high school Asami dated Chiharu Oono until Chiharu suddenly disappeared. Asami was hurt by that experience, but when Chiharu didn’t recognize Asami seven years later, Asami was hurt even more. Asami then planned to make Chiharu feel the same pain as Asami did back then.

I know I just suggested another manga by Hiyori Otsu, but I wanted to talk about this manga too. I love this one shot. The art is pretty and the story is simple and cute. I suggest this manga for everyone who enjoys cute yuri stories.

Drawing Style: 9/10

I love the way this mangaka draws characters. I like how she was able to show the growth in the characters why changing them a bit between high school and adult hood. I love the backgrounds too. The background look so simple, but they are actually really detailed.

Characters: 8/10

The manga is only one chapter, but Hiyori Otsu made it easy to connect to the characters feelings in the manga.

Main Characters

Asami Kawahara:

Asami is a simple sweet girl in love until her girl friend disappears one day. After hearing rumors about her girl friend cheating on her with four other girls, Asami starts getting angrier at her girl friend. It hurts the worst when Chiharu doesn’t recongnize her when they met each other seven years later because Asami knows it is Chiharu right away. Asami then comes up with a plan to make Chiharu pay for what she did to Asami years ago. Asami doesn’t deal well with her emotions, but she is weak to Chiharu. Chiharu is good at subduing Asami when Asami is angry.

Chiharu Oono:

Chiharu is a popular cool girl in high school. She and Asami were secretly dating in high school until Chiharu dissapears. She states that she was to scared to tell Asami that she was going to leave. Chiharu doesn’t remember Asami when they meet seven years later, but she falls in love with Asami again even when Chiharu doesn’t remember Asami. Chiharu doesn’t try to hard for herself, but for Asami she is willing to work hard. She is good at smooth lines which help cool doewn Asami’s anger.

Plot: 8/10

The plot of this manga is cute and simple. I really liked the plot because it was different than most mangas. It has stuck out in my manga list because the story is so adorable.

How well the manga fits the genre(s) (Drama): 8/10

I really liked the drama in this manga. It was adorable watching the characters work through their problems.

Overall Opinion: 33/40

I love this manga one-shot. It is really cute and sweet. I love the drama between the two characters. The characters are easy to connect to. I also love the comedy of how easy Chiharu gets out of the whole situation. This is a great manga for five minutes of adorable yuri love.

Anime Review: Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru!

These are all the girl’s in the Nakaimo harem. Left to right: (Mana Tendou, Miyabi Kannagi, Konoe Tsuruma, Rinka Kunitachi, Mei Sagara)

Anime: Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru! (My Little Sister is Among Them!) [Nickname: Nakaimo]

Episode Count: 12 episodes and 1 OVA

Year: 2012

Genre: Comedy, Ecchi, Romance, School, Harem

You can watch it at: Crunchyroll (Ep 1-12) [Warning: To find it you have to search for it on google.], (OVA)

Summary: The anime, Nakaimo, is about rich boy who is the next heir of the Mikadono family. His name is Shougo Mikadono. The boy’s father dies meaning Shougo has to get married to get the right to lead the Mikadono family. Shougo’s mother sends her son to a new high school to find himself a wife. The only problem is Shougo’s father had an affair and bore Shougo a secret sister who is trying to become one of Shougo’s possible wives. Shougo doesn’t want to marry his sister, so he must figure out which girl, that is close to him, is his actual sister finishing the task given to him by his mother.

I would suggest this anime to anyone who enjoys a comedic harem-ish romance anime. The anime enjoys to fool the watcher to believe all the girls could be the sister through out the series. If you are an avid anime watcher, the signs of which girl is the sister is obvious. The romance between the characters mostly just blossoms. The anime is enjoyable and keeps you guessing until the end.

Animation: 7/10

The animation for this anime was average. One of the scenes that disappointed me was the when Shougo and Rinka were dancing. I thought the scene could have been drawn better. There were times when it seemed like no movement was really happening or weird angles appeared. There were moments in the anime where it was a little awkward too. As I stated before, the animation was not horrible, but it definitely wasn’t special.

Characters: 7/10

The characters in this anime are pretty generic but also lovable.

Main Characters:

Shougo Mikadono

Shougo Mikadono

Shougo Mikadono

Shougo is the main boy in the series. He is the heir of his family and is capable of becoming super rich. The characteristic that attracts most of the girls to him is his kind nature. He always wants to help his friends if they are in need. When Shougo was a child, he saved Konoe from getting hit by a car. This caused Shougo to have memory issues later in his life.

Konoe Tsuruma

Konoe is Shougo’s childhood friend. Their father’s knew each other in the past, so sometimes Konoe and Shougo would play together. One day, the two characters went to an amusement park and Shougo got hit by a car while saving Konoe. Konoe never forgot Shougo and has cared from him since they were kids. She is also my favorite to win in the anime. She is sweet and gentle, but also a bit perverted.

Miyabi Kannagai

Miyabi Kannagai is also a childhood friend of Shougo. They met at the hospital because Shougo’s father had to be hospitalized. They would play together and pretended to get married. Eventually Miyabi’s father started going to another hospital, and the two were seperated. Miyabi always hoped to see Shougo again, and she was happy he transferred to her school. Miyabi is a bit of a tsundere. She is a hard worker, but also has trouble controlling her feelings at times.

Mei Sagara

Mei is the oldest girl in the anime. She is a third year, and she runs her own sister cafe. The viewers find out she is adopted and raised by a loving mother and father. The father was a math professor who caught an interest in Mei because she was amazing at math. The mother used to run the cafe before she died. Mei then had to move to America where she published a journal and got enough money to buy back the cafe and run it as her own. Mei is an intelligent character who isn’t afraid to play the bad guy if it is a benefit to her friends. She also likes to joke around with Shougo.

Rinka Kunitachi

Rinka is a first year student and also the vice president of the school. She became vice president because the previous one stepped down. She is very responsible and a bit pushy. She wants to do the right thing. She comes from a rich family, so she is seen as a bit high-handed. She has an rich girl air to her, but she doesn’t rub her power in others faces. She is well respected by the other students, and she is a good cook.

Mana Tendou

Mana is the president of the school. She loves to have fun and eat sweets. Mana avoids doing her duties as the council president and which gives Rinka more work. She is often scolded by Rinka for her behavior. Her character adds more comedy to the anime because she doesn’t really get much of a back story. It is fun having a character that isn’t really in the harem, but just trolls in it.

Ikusu Mizutani (Mr. X)

Ikusu works for the Mikadono family. She is somewhat like a ninja, but a modern day one. She helps Shougo figure out which girl is his sister by providing information and offering advice. Ikusu is used as a comedic character especially because she cross dresses as a male student in the school, then she acts really close with Shougo making the other students believe Shougo and Ikusu are gay for each other. Ikusu is great for comic relief when the show starts to lose interest.

Wanted to add another photo of all the cute girls

Plot: 6/10

I honestly was expecting more from the anime. After reading the description and hearing Aesm’s review of it, I thought the producers would have made it harder to guess which girl. I pretty much guessed it was Miyabi Kannagai from the first episode and held my ground. I only wavered a bit believing that Ikusu Mizutani might be the sister. The plot definitely did a good job flowing between different parts of the plot.

Opening/Ending: 8/10

Both the opening and ending theme songs were pretty catchy. I enjoyed the upbeat opening theme song. The animation was great. They did push that Konoe and Miyabi were the favorite though. This makes it easy to know out of those two, one of them have to be the sister. The ending theme song is more tame. It is a little bit more relaxed, but it still keeps the feelings of the anime. Although they were both good, they were not endings I would go out of my way to listen to.

How well the anime fits the main genre(s) (Romantic Comedy/Harem): 8/10

The anime fit the main genre well. It had funny moments, but the romance was lacking. The harem aspect was better than most anime that I’ve seen. This harem is different than most. Instead of all the girls loving the main boy, only three seem to be in love. It makes it less annoying when half the girls just mess around by flirting with the boy.

Overall Opinion: 36/50

I actually did enjoy this anime a fair amount. I just couldn’t get over the fact that the sister was so easy to guess. My favorite girl was defiantly Konoe, and I really hope she wins in the end. The funniest character was Mr. X. I loved all the innuendos and just Ikusu in general was amazing. I also thought that the vice president and president would make a great yuri ship. I was a bit disappointed when Rinka fell for Shougo in the end.

Feel free to share your own feelings you got while watching the anime. I want to know if others were able to guess the ending too.
