Feiyon – Day 3: Favorite Anime Opening

My favorite anime opening is Discotheque from the second season of Rosario Vampire. I love the upbeat melody and Nana Mizuki’s singing can make any song great. The consistent beat makes it catchy and easy to dance to. Whenever I feel down, this is one song that can always make me feel better. Here is a link to a shortened opening version: Here

Anime Review

Anime: Rosario Vampire

Episode Count: 26 Episodes/ 2 Seasons/ 13 episodes each

Year: 2008

Genre: Comedy, Ecchi, Fantasy, Romance, School, Vampire, Harem

You can watch it at: Netflix, Anime1

Summary:  Tsukune Aono is a freshman entering high school, the only problem is he didn’t make it into any high school. His father happened to pick up an acceptance letter, and that allows Tsukune to enter high school. On his first day of school, he crashes into a girl who claims to be a vampire named, Moka Akashiya . He soon realizes that he is at a school full of monsters. Tsukune quickly decides to leave the school for his own safety, but soon realizes that the bus only comes once a month. What will Tsukune decide to do in a months time?

Recommendation: This anime has a good mix of comedy, ecchi, and harem. I really enjoyed all the main characters in the anime. They all brought their own charm to the show. I would suggest this show to anyone who enjoys a good harem anime.

Animation: 10/10

The animation in Rosario Vampire is really well done. All the scenes and movements are smooth. The “Discotheque” opening has great animation that goes with the song. There are a few blimps in the animation, but I can tell there was a lot of effort put into the animation, and it really helps the quality of this show.

Characters: 9/10

All the characters in the anime make the show better. They all have diverse personalities. I really liked Moka’s two personalities.

Main Characters:

Tsukune Aono:

Tsukune Aono is a human who ended up at a school full of monsters. He is very conscious about how powerless he is, and that bothers him a lot. Although he doesn’t have much power, his kindness is what attracts girls to him.

Moka Akashiya:

Moka Akashiya is a vampire who met Tsukune on the first day of school. Tsukune is the first friend that she has made in school. When she was in human school, she was constantly picked on. In monster school, she is believed to be the most attractive girl in school. Moka is an S-class vampire, which is the most powerful monster. Because her true form is too powerful, it is sealed using a rosary. While Moka is wearing the rosary, she is happy and cheerful. She has pink hair and she has an innocent look on her face. In Moka’s true form, she has a cool demeanor. Her eyes changed to a dark red color and her hair turns white. She is usually more level headed than normal Moka, but she also isn’t honest with her feelings.

The two sides of Moka. (Moka's true form on the left, Moka's normal form on the right.)

The two sides of Moka. (Moka’s true form on the left, Moka’s normal form on the right.)

Plot: 7/10

If plot was the amount of boobage in a show, this plot would be 9/10. The real plot of the story is just an average harem. The story follows Tsukune and the other girls’ school life. The show is more for the characters than a plot since nothing really happens in the anime.

Opening/Ending: 9.5/10

I really enjoyed every song in this anime except for the opening for the first season. “Discotheque” has been my favorite anime opening for years. The two endings “Dancing in the Velvet Moon” and “Trinity Cross”, that are sung by Nana Mizuki. The darker melodies of the ending songs compared to the cute openings are a great contrast between Moka’s character. Especially since all the songs I like are sung by Nana Mizuki.

How well the anime fits the main genre(s) (Comedy/Ecchi/Harem): 10/10

I believe this anime does a great job mixing these three genres together. The comedy happens in every episodes with little dibbles between characters and jokes that run throughout the show. More than have the comedy in the show is ecchi based and between fights between the girls. There are also lots of boob jiggles and panty shots. The harem aspect is strong in the show, but all the girls seem to get along well after joining the harem.

Overall Opinion: 46.5/50

I really enjoyed this anime. I really liked the setting of the anime. It seemed really interesting having a human in a world of monsters. I also really liked Moka’s character. It is interesting how she has two different personalities. Another draw to the show is Nana Mizuki and Rie Kugamiya being in the anime. I really like those two voice actresses, so personally that attracts me to this anime. This anime is a very basic harem, but it defiantly has a twist that makes it stand out.

Feiyon – Day 1: Gateway Anime

So today kicks off the start of the anime challenge. Day 1 is what is your gateway anime. Mine personally is Sailor Moon. Honestly, when I first saw Sailor Moon when I was five, I hated the show. It freaked me out. Years later, I was baby-sitting one of my friends that is years younger than I am, and she happened to have some Sailor Moon episodes. We watched a few for a couple years together. I finally reached the point where I wanted to know how Sailor Moon started, because all the episodes we were watching were random. They would be from the first season then the third season. It was not consistent. After finishing all of Sailor Moon in English, I rewatched it in Japanese because I realized that America cut a few of the episodes from the original version. I didn’t stop there. After watching all the English and Japanese episodes, the movies, and the OVAs, I watched the live action series. I really should have stopped sooner, but I was obsessed. After Sailor Moon, I started the Inuyasha series, and it’s all history from there.

Year: March 7, 1992 – February 8, 1997

Genre: Adventure, Magical Girl, Romance, Comedy, Drama, Fantasy

You can watch it at:

There are many places that you can watch the series. They used to have all the episodes on YouTube. It seems that Hulu has a few season for free in Japanese. watchsailormoon.com has English dub and Sailor Stars Japanese Dubbed.

Usagi Tsukino (Serena Tsukino) is an average middle school girl. She is mostly known for being a crybaby. However, she is also very sweet and caring. She is always willing to sacrifice herself for the good of others. One day, Usagi is told by a talking cat that she is the guardian of the Earth, Sailor Moon. The evil people of the Dark Moon attack Earth, and it is Sailor Moon’s job, along with the Sailor Scouts, to help protect the Earth.

(The other season have different evil beings and new sailor scouts that join the team.)

This is one of those really well known classics that I believe every anime fan should try to watch. I loved this whole series. It has a great mix of action, comedy, and drama, let alone it is a magical girl show. Although every episode gets slightly repetitive, the show as a whole is really enjoyable. It is fun to connect with all the characters through the different events that happen throughout the series. There are good amounts of comedy mixed with enough drama to keep you wanting more.

(I do not suggest watching the Sailor Moon Crystal series that has just come out. It is nowhere close to being as good as the original.)

Animation: 9/10

Considering the animation limitations of the time, Sailor Moon has decent animation. I  thought the style of the art really fit the show well. This was confirmed when I saw the first half of Sailor Moon Crystal. The transformations and every day life sequences are very fluid in the anime. I really enjoyed the animation of Sailor Moon and thought it was well done.

Characters: 9/10

All the characters in the Sailor Moon series are special in different ways. As the show progresses, the it is easier to become attached to each one individually and all the characters together as a group.

Main Characters:

Usagi Tsukino (Serena Tsukino):

Usagi Tsukino is a middle schooler in the first season of Sailor Moon, and in the final season she is a high schooler. She has always been a total klutz, so her family often yells at her for making messing up. As stated before, Usagi cares a lot for others. This includes friends, family, and strangers. She can easily loose her temper when she gets teased or someone is threatening her relationship with Mamoru, her boyfriend. Usagi is the princess of the moon kingdom reincarnated as a human Earth girl. She is also Sailor Moon, the leader of the sailor scouts. Most of Sailor Moon’s powers are connected to using a staff to attack or heal.

As the series progresses, Usagi matures a lot. It is inferred that she becomes the queen of Earth and Crystal Tokyo, and she is Rini’s mother.

Rei Hino (Raye Hino):

Rei Hino works as a shine maiden at her family shrine. She is known to be born with spiritual powers. These allow her to sense evil. The powers Rei was born with make it hard for her to make friends before Usagi meets her. Soon after they meet, Rei discovers that she is Sailor Mars. Most of her powers correlate to fire and her spiritual powers.

She really cherishes her friendships with all the other sailor scouts, but that doesn’t stop her from getting into fights with Usagi. Rei goes to a different school than the other sailor scouts during the entire series, but she always has a way to make an appearance. She is not shy about telling boys that she is interested, but this can cause her to fight with other girls interested in the same guy.

Mamoru Chiba (Darien Shields):

Mamoru Chiba is the love interest of Usagi. He is a few years older than her, so his character is a lot more mature and collected than her. Mamoru in Japanese translates to “protect”, and that is his main role in the anime. He is the one and only Tuxedo Mask. Since episode one, he helps the sailor scouts whenever they are in trouble. He usually goes when the sailor scouts are facing a huge threat or he will show up randomly. He is the reincarnation of the Prince of Earth, Endymion. He and the princess of the moon were in love during their life time, and that love remain strong inside Mamoru and Usagi still. When Mamoru was a child, he got into a bad car accident that killed his parents. He has trouble remembering his past because of it.

Tuxedo mask has the power to sometimes see people’s dreams, heal minor wounds, and monitor the status of the Earth.

Plot: 8/10

The plot of the entire series is quite good for a longer running series. I usually stay away from longer series like One Piece and Naruto because of the length and fillers, but this anime didn’t make any episode feel like a filler. It was great at keeping me entertained. I loved the comedy mixed with the drama that every evil organization brought. The plot itself is like every other magical girl show where in every episode some civilian gets attacked and the girls save them, but the mix of characters and comedy help this anime keep its individualism.

Opening/Ending: 8/10

The opening “Moonlight Densetsu” is a classic among anime openings. It is the opening for the first four season. The Sailor Stars intro song, “Sailor Stars” was catchy and good, but it still doesn’t compare to “Moonlight Densetsu”. I honestly don’t remember the ending songs for the Sailor Moon series. They didn’t compare though.

How well the anime fits the main genre(s) (Comedy/Fantasy): 9/10

This anime fits the genre of comedy and fantasy really well. The fantasy being the magical girl powers, the evil beings, and the creatures. The comedy is mixed into every episode of the anime. It is usually shown between interactions between the characters. This anime is a good mix of fantasy and comedy, and without either it wouldn’t have been as enjoyable.

Overall Opinion: 43/50

I love the Sailor Moon series and I’m glad I can say it was my first anime series. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the whole thing, but whenever I go back to watch just one episode again I end up watching five or more. I’m always game to watching Sailor Moon again with my friend who helped get me started. As an anime fan, I think that everyone should try watching this series.

Anime Review: Gonna be the Twintail!

Tails Blue, Red, and Yellow

Tails Blue, Red, and Yellow

Anime: Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu

Novel: Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu

Episode Count: 12

Year: 2014

You can watch it at: anime1.com

Summary: Mitsuka Souji is a first year in high school with an overly developed adoration for the twintails hairstyle. One day, a beautiful girl named Twoearle appears and gives him a bracelet that uses his love for twintails to turn him into a beautiful twintailed girl named “Tail Red”. Red uses the power of twintails to fight off the Elemelians that wish to steal all fetishes from the world. The Elemelians are creatures that take the shape of monstrous animals and embody a fetish.

Recommendation: If you enjoy hero shows, this is a great one.

Animation: 10/10

The animation style for this show is fantastic. The show exemplified beautiful backgrounds, well designed characters, and great battle scenes.

Characters: 10/10

Main Characters:

Mitsuka Souji

Mitsuka Souji

Mitsuka Souji:

Souji is a high school student with a disturbing attachment to twintails. He loves them. He worships them. Twintails are his world. When Twoearle appears and gives him the TailGear so he can defend his beloved twintails he jumps in to protect what he loves. Yeah, he saves the world too, but that’s bonus. Twintails will be safe. Near the end of the show after Dark Grasper kisses Tail Red Souji begins to question his love for twintails and finds himself transformed into a girl indefinitely. The girl is not Red, as one might expect. She is taller, has a different face, and larger boobs. During his time as a girl Souji goes by the name Solar and is unable to revert to his male form until his twintails appear to him in his min and put an end to his doubts. As Tail Red Souji’s prefered weapon is a sword by the name of “Blazer Blade”. Blazer Blade opens and ignites itself during Red’s “Brake Release”: “Grand Blazer”.

Tsube Aika

Tsube Aika

Tsube Aika:

Aika is Souji’s twintailed best friend. Aika is undoubtedly in love with Souji and even has his mother’s blessing to be his romantic partner. Aika’s love manifests itself in her twintails, she maintains them and cares for them as they are a connection that binds Souji and her together. Aika gets jealous easily and often beats on Twoearle when Twoearle attempts to seduce Souji. When Souji is having difficulty against the Elemelian Fox Guildy, Aika claims a TailGear of her own and becomes Tail Blue. Blue wields a trident that she throws when fighting Elemelians. When an Elemelian comments on her bust size though, she opts to discard the trident and pound the beast to death with her bare hands. Blue uses a power known as Elemelition to use the fetish affinities of Elemelians they’ve already defeated in battle for her own reasons.

Shindou Erina

Shindou Erina

Shindou Erina:

Erina is the student council president at the school Souji, Aika and she attend. Erina falls in love with Tail Red after being saved by her and quickly discovers that Red’s true identity is Souji. After Twoearle develops the third TailGear with a hybrid twintail-big breast core Erina joins the twintails as Tail Yellow. When she first joins she is unable to use her power as she claims to hate twintails. She wears them because it is a family tradition she cannot escape. Erina, with the help of Souji, discovers her true love for twintails and decides that Souji will become her master. She often begs Souji to treat her like a dog requesting that he demand she “stay” rather than “stand by”. Yellow’s armor is a series of guns that she sheds after firing. For her Brake Release Yellow’s armor forms a massive rifle that fires into her back, propelling her forward in a massively powerful kick.

Twoearle is a human from a parallel world that had been defeated by the Elemelians. On her world, Twoearle had used the blue TailGear to fight off the Elemelians but ended up accidentally feeding them the energy they needed to devour the energy of the planet. Twoearle decided to shed her own Twintail Affinity to develop the red TailGear that she gave to Souji. On Souji’s world, Twoearle is a perverted, busty woman that wants nothing more than for Souji to save his world like she could not. Well, maybe she wants into Souji’s pants a little more, but who knows?

Plot: 10/10

The story in Twintail was great. Alien invaders come to steal the energy from the world through fetishes and only a warrior whose life is dedicated to his love of twintails can fight them off. When a buddy suggested this to me my immediate reaction was “This sounds dumb but funny”. When I started watching it, though, I realized I was half wrong. It’s fantastic and funny. The twintails fight off the Elemelians to protect the fetishes of the world while Twoearle, Aika, and Erina subtly fight over Souji’s romantic love. (Hint: His only love is twintails.)

Opening/Ending: 10/10

I usually enjoy the opening and ending of most shows, but I enjoy them in that they fit the show. Twintail is one of the few shows whose opening I enjoyed enough to actively listen to even when I wasn’t watching the show. For Feiyon that may not be very big, but for me it’s a huge deal. Great songs. Very enjoyable.

How well it fits the genre (Action/Comedy): 10/10

My roommate and I started this show together and agree the fights are pretty great and it’s absolutely hysterical. There’s just enough romance for it to be made fun of, but not enough that the show would really be a romance.

Overall Opinion: 50/50

Yes. I have nothing else to say, just yes.

Anime Review: Toradora!

From left to right (Ami Kawashima, Yuusaku Kitamura, Taiga Aisaka, Ryuuji Takasu, Minori Kushieda)

Anime: Toradora!

Episode Count: 25 Episodes/ 1 OVA

Year: 2008-2009

Genre: Comedy, Romance, School, Slice of Life, Harem

You can watch it at:

Legally: Hulu, Crunchyroll (With a membership)

Illegally: Anime1

Purchase: Rightstuf, and Amazon

Ryuuji Takasu has always been judged as a delinquent because of his intimidating eyes. On the inside, Ryuuji is really a sweet and gentle house wife. The anime starts when Ryuuji enters his second year in high school. He is glad to find out that his best friend, Yuusaku Kitamura, and his secret crush, Minori Kushieda. He also discovered that the school’s Palm-Top Tiger, Taiga Aisaka, is in his class. Taiga is feared in the school because of her aggressive behavior. Ryuuji accidentally finds out that Taiga has a crush on his best friend Kitamura. While explaining that having a crush is okay, Ryuuji spills that he has a crush on Taiga’s best friend. They eventually decide that they will work together to help end up with their crushes.

I would suggest this anime to anyone who loves and has never seen anime. There are a great mix of characters. The anime itself can be taken at a light romantic comedy or seen with deeper meaning. I enjoyed every episode of the anime. The way the characters change over time is really great too. Anyone who likes romantic comedies should try this anime.

I will say the harem genre isn’t very prominent.

Animation: 7/10

The animation in this anime is a bit sketchy. In the first section of the anime, the character designs didn’t seem to be set in stone. The characters would look slightly different between different episodes. It wasn’t until the past the second season until they started have a more structured character design. There were moments in the series where the animation was great, but in other moments the animation was really bad.

Characters: 10/10

All the characters have amazing personalities. They all have various personalities that work well together. Each character is very memorable.

Main Characters:

Taiga Aisaka:

Taiga Aisaka is known in school as the “Palm-Top Tiger” because she is as aggressive as a tiger and small enough to fit on your hand. Taiga is the best example of a tsundere that I’ve ever seen in anime. Though out the series she gets better at projecting her anger at Ryuuji and is sweeter and kinder to him in the end. She still does have some edge though. Taiga normally only gets aggressive when people get in her way. She often feels like no one actually understands her, and that seems like one of the reasons she pushes people away. Taiga’s closest friend at the beginning of the series is Minori, but eventually Ryuuji and Taiga become closer. Taiga is used to being hurt, but is ultimately able to find happiness.

Ryuuji Takasu:IR2CSxTNOmx1BtJsNksVNCfb7MM

Ryuuji Takasu is believed to be a delinquent because of his eyes. He gets his eyes from his father, who he despises. It takes a while for people to warm up to him because they don’t realize that Ryuuji is a great guy. Ryuuji is actually a housewife at heart. Because his mother works at night, he takes care of cooking and cleaning. Ryuuji is an amazing cook and a clean freak. Mold is probably his worst enemy. Ryuuji is also kind and ends up taking care of Taiga. Although he is mature because he can take care of himself, he is also the most immature character. He is usually last to realize what is happening around him.

Ami Kawashima:

toradora-kawashima-ami-wallpaperAmi Kawashima is a popular model that came to into the high school in the middle of the year. She is childhood friends with Kitamura. By Taiga, she is usually referred to as “Baka-Chi” short for Stupid Chihuahua, because according to Taiga, Ami acts like a dog in heat. On the outside, Ami tries to act like a ditsy girl when she is really narcissistic and a bit aggressive. Ami eventually becomes a leader for the class to look up too. Her character is seen as mature by many other people, but Ryuuji sees her as a child, which Ami is grateful that someone sees the real her. Ami is almost the opposite of Ryuuji. She always seems to know what is going on around her, but she can’t take good care of herself. She also seems like the least important character because she doesn’t show up much and her role in the group is almost non-existent. There is definitely more to Ami than what meets the eye. Her character seems like a shallow bitch, but really she is just a high school girl.

Minori Kushieda:

kushieda-minori-toradora-anime-52670-1920x1080Minori Kushieda is probably the most misunderstood character in the whole show. She often says random things, but more than half the time she is talking about something relevant. (ex. Seeing ghosts). I’ll admit that it has taken me a few watches to catch everything that this character is actually saying. She says all the best lines in the anime.

Minori is great at athletics. She is captain of the women’s softball team and has many outside of school jobs. Ryuuji and Taiga often find her in the most random of shops. The job that seems to be the most stable is her waitressing job at the local family resturant. Minori is a fun and lovable character that never fails to make the anime more amusing. She often hides her own feelings, but that usually affects her personality too.

Yuusaku Kitamura:

9c4b08801c_98287985_o2Yuusaku Kitamura is the vice president of the school when the anime begins and president by the end of the anime. He is the captain of the baseball team too. Yuusaku confessed to Taiga in his first year of high school, but after being on student council fell in love with the president. He has a peculiar personality, somewhat like Minori, where he does some strange things sometimes. He cares deeply about his friends, but has trouble getting help from them. He doesn’t handle emotional outburst well, but he gets better over time.

Plot: 9/10

The plot of the anime is really good. They were great at making the plot from Ryuuji and Taiga working together to help the other person get together with their crush to Ryuuji and Taiga falling in love with each other. There are lots of episodes that did a great job characterizing the characters.

Opening/Ending: 10/10

I really enjoyed the opening and ending theme songs of this anime. The two openings were both great in different ways. The opening Pre-Parade has a great catchy rhythm. The second opening Silky Heart is a bit slower than the first opening. It still has a catchy back-beat to the lyrical melody.

How well the anime fits the main genre(s) (Romantic/Comedy): 10/10

This anime is the like the definition of a romantic comedy in my opinion. There is a lot of comedy to build connects to characters and romance more in the second half. It was a great blend of romance and comedy in which it knew when to use comedy to make the mood lighter, but also the romance in the anime was nice and pure.

Overall Opinion: 46/50

This is one of my favorite anime. I love the building of the characters during the entire show. There are many ways this show can be watched. I’ve seen it many times now, and I still find myself missing small meaningful details in the anime. I really liked the mix of humor and romance. There was a great balance between the two. I would suggest this anime to anyone who has or hasn’t seen anime. It is a great anime that can be enjoyed by anyone who doesn’t find romcoms boring.

Anime Review: Kannazuki no Miko

461116Anime: Kannazuki no Miko

English: Destiny of the Shrine Maiden

Episode Count: 12 Episodes

Year: 2004

Genre: Drama, Magic, Mecha, Romance, Shoujo-ai, Yuri, Shounen, Supernatural

You can watch it at: YouTube (It is in English and Japanese)

Summary: Himeko Kurusugawa lives an average high school life. She enjoys photography and being with her friend and roommate, Makoto Saotome. At the school, Chikane Himemiya is the most popular girl in school. She excels in sports, academics and beauty. One day, Himeko and Chikane became friends, and they have been keeping their friendship a secret from everyone in school. Himeko and Chikane happen to have the same birthday and plan to celebrate it together, however the destruction of the school and dorms ends up taking priority over their party. On the night of their birthday, the revival of an ancient evil being causes disruption for everyone, and the shrine maidens of the moon and the sun, Chikane and Himeko, are the people who can awaken a the god to protect all of human kind.

I would recommend this anime who can deal with a lot of drama. I personally get really bipolar about this anime. There are many moments that make me want to shout at the television and there are moments where I can’t help by have a huge grin on my face. I will warn you that there is a rape scene in this anime. If you are uncomfortable by that, you should avoid this anime. Like stated in the genre, this is shoujo-ai, so if you don’t support girls loving girls don’t watch this anime. I suggest this anime to anyone who likes yuri. Although it might anger you a lot, the ending is a real tearjerker. This is one of the most well known yuri anime, and it is a classic in the yuri community.

I would also recommend watching the Japanese version of this anime. I just personally like the subbed more than the dubbed version of this anime. I think the voices fit for both, but some of the lines in the English version are a bit awkward compared to the Japanese translation.

Animation: 7/10

The animation in this anime is decent. All the battle scenes were good. I liked the characters. I thought some of the characters looked strange in different moments. They would be drawn at an awkward angle or the characters in one scene wouldn’t match up in quality. There were a few awkward moments where the character’s eyes were a little to far apart. Some backgrounds to the anime are pretty. The scene where Chikane and Himeko have the pedals flowing around them is one of the better animated scenes. Most of the moments are nice and smooth.

Characters: 8/10

All the characters in this series were average on their own, but they mostly shined when they interacted together.

Main Characters:

2155014chikane1_zps92761587Chikane Himemiya:

Chikane Himemiya is popular among the students, staff, and community. She is athletic, academic, and attractive making men and women propose to her. She is very polite and kind. Chikane is drawn to Himeko’s warmth. Because everyone looks up to Chikane, they all keep an emotional and physical distance from her. Chikane falls in love with Himeko and wants her to be happy. It is painful to watch Himeko and Souma grow closer, but she cannot act upon her feelings because of the guilt she has from killing Himeko in a previous life. Chikane is willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of Himeko. As stated in the anime, “Chikane is neither an angel or a devil. She was just a sixteen year old girl in love.”

CatsHimeko Kurusugawa:

Himeko Kurusugawa is a sweet and gentle girl. Most of the time there is a warm smile on her face. She is childhood friends with Souma and has an adoration for Chikane. Himeko tends to use Chikane as support as she decides how to deal with her feeling towards Souma. Sometime Himeko can be pretty dense about what Chikane is feeling, but she starts to notice more when Souma and her relationship has settled more. Himeko had a rough childhood upbringing. It was never truly explained, but her parents died when she was little and the family that took her in was physically abusive towards Himeko. Himeko often believes that when something goes wrong it is her fault. This might be from the abuse she faced as a child. Himeko cares deeply for everyone. It hurts her to see someone else in pain.

Himeko finally realizes at the end that her one true love is Chikane, and she promises to wait for her in the new world. The two have an adorable reunion scene, and Himeko finally says no to Souma.

0978Souma Oogami:

(I will try to keep from letting my hatred for this character to be in this description. It is just that he adds is the main reason I yell at the television when watching this anime.)

Souma Oogami is known as the prince by most of the students in the school. Because he is attractive and has skills in academics and athletics, everyone at school believes that he is the best match for Chikane. Unfortunately that rumor is untrue and Souma actually has a huge crush on Himeko. The two were childhood friends, and he likes Himeko for her warmth. Souma tries really hard to impress Himeko and get her to like him. Souma is one of the Orochi, one of eight people who are trying to kill the moon and sun priestess. His emotions toward Himeko allow him to fight against the Orochi to protect Himeko. He constantly reminds Himeko that he is protecting her and often tries to slip in lines about how her feels while they talk. He gets easily butt-hurt when Himeko rejects him. He is really self-conscious about anything to do with Himeko. Souma is willing to sacrifice himself for Himeko, and he is able to accept that Himeko choose Chikane over him. I was a bit annoyed when Souma left Himeko on the cliff after she rejected him. I felt he could have taken her home or something, but whatever. Souma is a nice character to play off Chikane.

Plot: 8/10

The main plot of the anime is for Himeko and Chikane to break the seal on Ame no Murakumo and use his powers to seal the Orochi. Although this is the main point of the story, it takes a long time for the two girls to break the seal. The main purpose of the Orochi were to kill the priestesses which they failed at often. The main focus of the anime seemed to be the love triangle compared to saving everyone. The only person who wanted to save the world was really Himeko. Chikane and Souma both just wanted to protect Himeko. The plot focuses more on the fact that Himeko tries to figure out how she feels about Souma and eventually chooses Chikane.

Chikane is on the left and Himeko is on the right.

Chikane is on the left and Himeko is on the right.

Opening/Ending: 8/10

The first time I watch Kannazuki no Miko,I didn’t pay to much attention to the intro and ending songs. I realized after my second run through was the opening song Re-Submility was a pretty good opening song and I loved the ending song, Agony. It has a really catchy tune, and I found myself listening to it a lot after watching the show for the second time.

How well the anime fits the main genre(s) (Drama/Shoujo-ai): 10/10

This manga really stuck to the genres. The whole anime has drama seeping out of every scene, unless there is a random bit of robot action. The drama of the anime is Himeko deciding if she likes Souma. This causes Chikane to always be alone and agonizing over the fact that Himeko probably won’t accept her love. The drama in this anime gets really intense and it is the reason that so many emotions come out of me as I watch this anime. The shoujo-ai aspect never fails to show up. The anime likes to focus on Chikane’s reaction to Souma and Himeko coming closer together. There first episode has a scene where Chikane and Himeko kiss. There is no point in the anime that you forget there is girls love in this anime.

Overall Opinion: 41/50

I really enjoy this anime because of Chikane and Himeko. It is rough to watch as Himeko is trying to understand how she really feels about Chikane and Souma. There are parts of this anime that are rough to watch, but the ending made the whole anime worth it. I can understand why some people would be a bit upset with the ending of Kannazuki no Miko because Souma and Himeko didn’t end up together, but I personally thought those two didn’t quite match up. I love this anime and this couple, and I hope everyone can have as precious of a love as theirs.

Anime Review: Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai

The cast of “Haganai: I Don’t Have Many Friends”

Anime: Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai (Haganai)

English: I Don’t Have Many Friends

Episode Count: 14 Episodes (Including 2 OVAs – Episode 0 and Episode 13)

Year: 2011

Genre: Comedy, Ecchi, Romance, Harem, School

You can watch it at: AnimeFreak.tv

Summary: Hasegawa Kodaka, the new kid at school, finds himself in various unfortunate situations that leave him with the reputation of being a tough guy everyone is afraid of. As such, he has difficulty making friends. As he is wandering the school and contemplating his loneliness one day he sees one of classmates, Yozora, talking to a friend of hers, one that doesn’t actually exist. After a bout of anger, Yozora calms down  and convinces Kodaka that the two of them should be friend-less together. The two decide to form a club and call it the “Neighbor’s Club”, a club for learning how to make friends.

I definitely suggest this anime to anyone with a taste for ecchi and harem. The characters have a beautiful dynamic that allows each of their senses of humors to play off each of the others. The story is fantastic as the neighbor’s club grows over time.

If you are not into ecchi and harem, it pains me to say it but this is not the anime for you. As a friend of mine puts it, “The ‘plot’ (read: “boobage”), is GREAT!”

SPOILERS AFTER THIS POINT (Only for the first season)

Animation: 10/10

The animation was great, characters, backgrounds, everything. Beautiful..The characters had very explicit facial expressions that clearly depicted the emotions each was feeling.

Characters: 10/10

Every character was very well developed. Each one was able to beautifully fit in with every other character. The personalities of each character were well developed and dynamic in a way that really helps you feel an attachment to each of them in their own unique way.

Main Character:

Hasegawa Kodaka

Hasegawa Kodaka

Hasegawa Kodaka:

Hasegawa Kodaka is just a normal guy that wants a normal life with normal friends and a normal family. Unfortunately for him, he’s been branded an unapproachable tough guy because of his abnormal hair. He quickly becomes the center of the Neighbor’s Club and is impartial to any of the girls in his obvious harem.

Yozora Mikazuki

Yozora Mikazuki is the Neighbor’s Club sadistic President. Friend-less by nature due to her distaste for “normals”, she forms the Neighbor’s Club with Kodaka in an attempt to make more friends. It becomes apparent later that her only intention was to form a private club for herself and her old friend “Taka” (Kodaka) who has seemed to forgotten her after the years they spent apart. Yozora’s favorite hobbies include reading, spending time with Kodaka, and taunting Sena Kashiwazaki, whom she spitefully refers to as “Meat”.

Yozora Mikazuki

Yozora Mikazuki

Sena Kashiwazaki

Sena Kashiwazaki

Sena Kashiwazaki

The resident busty blond of the group, Sena is popular and smart and has lots of friends before she joins the Neighbor’s Club. Or so it seems. In actuality, Sena is very lonely in her own world and comes to the Neighbor’s Club for help making friends as their first new member. Sena is very innocent and often made uncomfortable by sexual circumstances. Despite this, she is fond of playing near-hentai dating sims that Yozora often forces her to read aloud, much to Sena’s embarrassment.

Yukimura Kusunoki

Yukimura Kusunoki is an extremely feminine boy that implores Kodaka to teach him to be a man, as he hears the rumors about Kodaka being a tough guy. Yozora, being Yozora, convinces him that a true man can exude manliness no matter what he wears and so convinces him to wear a dress for the entire show as part of his “manliness training”. Kodaka often feels very strange around Kusunoki. He is so feminine the others often forget he is male in the first place.

Yukimura Kusunoki

Yukimura Kusunoki

Plot: 8/10

The plot is fairly standard for an ecchi/harem. Multiple girls all fall for the same guy and have a cold war of sorts over him. Even so, the show is more about learning about each character’s life and seeing how they all interact than just watching the girls fight over Kodaka (Don’t worry though, there’s plenty of that as well.)

Opening/Ending: 8/10

I’m not an avid listener of anime music and I generally skip the openings and endings of shows after the first couple episodes, but I actively enjoyed listening to the opening especially of Haganai.

How well the anime fits the main genre(s) (Comedy, Harem): 10/10

The comedy in Haganai is great. There’s a little something for everyone in it and that little something never really goes away for long. As for the harem, Every girl is a viable favorite. Kodaka is even so there is no obvious bias towards any one girl.

Overall Opinion: 46/50

I absolutely loved Haganai and would definitely watch it again. I was surprised when a buddy of mine suggested it, as he often suggests ecchis that have a grand total of 0 plot, and I got wholeheartedly sucked into the show. I couldn’t wait to watch Haganai: NEXT after I finished the first season and loved the show even more. A winner in my book.

Anime Review: Amagi Brilliant Park

Episode Count: 13 Episodes

Year: 2014

Genre: Comedy, Magic, Business, Romance

You can watch it at: Anime1.com

Summary: The main character Seiya Kanie is suddenly held at gun point and forced to go on a date with the new transfer student, Isuzu Sento. The two end up going on a date to this run-down amusement park. After exploring the whole park, Sento takes Seiya to see the princess of the park. The princess tells Seiya that the amusement park is actually run by magical beings that depend on the park’s sucess to live. Because the park is doing so poorly, the park will be forced to close if less than 500,000 people come in one year. The dead-line for the park is approaching, and the park has only had around 250,000 guests. The princess tells Seiya he is the their only hope. Can Seiya bring back this dying amusement park in three months, or will it be forced to close its doors?

I would recommend this anime to anyone who enjoys a good comedy. The characters in this anime play off each other well which makes the jokes even better. There is not much romance in this anime so don’t watch this anime looking for romance. The plot of this anime is great. It is interesting how the characters have to strategist how to keep the park alive and can make any accident into a benefit to the park.

When Asem’s friend was suggesting the anime to Asem, he said, “It’s like Queen Latifa and Kanye West playing roller coaster tycoon the anime.” If that doesn’t make this anime sound good, I would suggest not watching it.

Animation: 10/10

The animation of this anime was gorgeous. Everything from the moments of the characters to the backgrounds were really well done. The animators did a great job with the characters. They all had great character designs, and the moments of the characters bodies and facial expression added so much to the anime.

The joys of working at an amusement park

The joys of working at an amusement park

Characters: 10/10

The characters in general were a great bunch. Each character had their own unique personality trait. The combination of these characters made the anime great. They all played off each other well comically and during important scenes.

Main Characters:

Seiya Kanie, Amagi Brilliant Park (It is so understandable why he was a child actor. He definitely hasn't lost his looks.)

Seiya Kanie

Seiya Kanie:

Seiya Kanie is an average high school student who used to be a child actor. Although nothing about that past is explained, being a child actor has affected Seiya’s personality. He is arrogant about his abilities and often acts narcissistic.  Seiya has no problem running the park, but his decisions sometimes cause lots of stress for the employees. It takes him a while to warm up to everyone, but eventually he begins to care a lot about the park and it’s workers. He works really hard to protect everyone’s home, and he even comes back to continue managing the park after he saves it.

3 (1)

Isuzu Sento

Isuzu Sento

Isuzu Sento:

Isuzu Sento was the manager of the park before Seiya. She is the one who forces Seiya to come to the park, so he can help them out. Isuzu is rather emotionless and blunt on the outside, but on the inside she worries a lot about the park and others. When she is angered, she is quick to pull out her magical gun to shoot or threaten people into submission. She becomes Seiya’s main assistant as he works on fixing the park. Isuzu seems to have a fondness for Seiya in the series, but she doens’t seem to pursue Seiya. Her main focus is to save the amusement park from closing down.

Amagi-Brilliant-Park-01-00030Latifa Fleuranza:

Latifa Fleuranza is the princess and in charge of the whole park. She is stuck inside the castle because it keeps her safe, so she has other people managing the park. Latifa makes the croquettes to sell to the guests at the park. She tries her best to help with the park even though she cannot do much. This just shows her cute and sweet side.

The reason the amusement park was created was to protect Latifa from a spell cast on her by a wizard. On a certain day of the year, the princesses memories and body gets reset. In the process, she loses her memories and she doesn’t age. If the park closes, the princess will die. Latifa worries more about the workers in the park than her own health. She always has a smile on her face even though she has many problems.

Moffle is the park’s mascot character. He is knowledgeable about the park and has some authority over the other workers in the park. Moffle and Seiya don’t get along a lot, but they both work really hard to keep the park alive. Moffle is said to be the princess’ uncle. He cares for her like a guardian and protects her from harm and men. In the past, he seemed to have a crush on Latifa’s mother, but that obviously didn’t go well. Moffle has a bad temper, and he isn’t afraid to throw a punch when he is provoked. Most of the time, he acts mature and helps motivate the other characters to help protect the park.

Plot: 9/10

I really enjoyed the plot of this anime. Although every episode seemed to run on jokes, the park continued to slowly get better. It was fun to watch as the characters worked hard to get more guests through the gate. During the final episode, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time as the seconds ticked down before the park got its final customers. The comedy mixed into the seriousness of saving the park made the anime exciting and humorous.

Opening/Ending: 7/10

The opening and ending songs were not special. I liked the opening song more than the ending, but I’ve never desired to listen to the song just for enjoyment.

How well the anime fits the main genre(s) (Comedy/Romance): 9/10

This anime had great comedy. It was all fun and fresh. The characters are work great together. The three main mascots are hilarious. They are cute charcters, but they act like old-man children. They enjoy drinking, but they also love messing around with Seiya and Isuzu. The romance in this anime is lacking. It’s like they set it up for romance, but no one makes any advances, so the feelings are just there.

Overall Opinion: 44/50

I loved this anime. It was my favorite for the Fall 2014 season. I always saved this anime for last when I was watching weekly because it was so funny. Every episode got me laughing really loud. This anime had a great cast and plot. It seems to have set itself up for a second season, but I am a bit worried that it won’t get one. All we can do now is wait.

Anime Review: Sword Art Online

sword_art_onlineAnime: Sword Art Online (SAO)

Episode Count: 25 Episodes + 1 Extra

Year: 2012

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Game, Romance, Shounen

You can watch it at: Crunchyroll and Netflix

Summary: The year is 2022 and the first virtual reality massive multiplayer online roleplaying game (VRMMORPG) has just been created. The game is called Sword Art Online, and it is a fantasy world where players use medieval weaponry to fight monsters. The purpose of the game is the beat the boss on the hundreth floor and win. Before the game came out, a bunch of people were able to beta-test the game for the company. Kirito, the main male lead, was one of these beta-testers. The first day the game is released, everyone who bought the game and the beta-testers all start playing Sword Art Online. It takes a while before the players realize there is no way to “log out” of the game. The creator of the game, Akihiko Kayaba, announces the game is a trap in which if anyone wants to escape the last boss must be beaten. He also states, if a player dies in Sword Art Online, they also die in the real world to through the machine they are using to play the game. Kirito and many other players must face many challenges is they want to make it out of the game alive.

I personally think that everyone should at least try this anime. Although I usual avoid popular anime, this one has earned its popularity. I feel this anime is a great mix of action, humor, and drama. They are good at adding humor to keep the darker parts not to depressing. You really feel for the characters as they struggle through this anime. This anime is great for new anime fans and people who have watched anime for years.

I will be writing a separate review for Sword Art Online II.

Animation: 10/10

The animation of Sword Art Online is great. The fight scenes in this anime are really well done. There is a lot of work put into them. They are fun to watch and the get you pumped when watching the characters try their best. The scenery in the anime is great too. The backgrounds always look amazing. They hold a lot of detail even if it is for a small scene. It really makes you wish Sword Art Online was a real game. The movement of the characters are well done too. The movements of the characters are always smooth. The detail in the outfits help characterize and add style to the characters. The facial expressions are well drawn too, so you know exactly how the characters are feeling.

Pretty Backgrounds

Pretty Backgrounds

Sword Art Online Arc

Sword Art Online Arc

Sword Art Online Arc

The animators also did a magnificent job of changing the drawing style between Sword Art Online and Alfheim. Although I don’t like elves, the characters, backgrounds, and fights were just as good as Sword Art Online.

Alfheim Arc

Characters: 10/10

The creators of Sword Art Online were great at making the audience feel for all the characters. For example, they made Kuradeel seem like a huge creep. This personally made me feel really uncomfortable when he was on screen, and I was really happy when he died. Another example would be when Sugu falls for Kirito. Although you know that Sugu fell for her “brother” again, you can’t help but feel a bit bad for her situation.

Main Characters:

Kirigaya Kazuto (Kirito):Kirito

Kirigaya Kazuto is the main character of the Sword Art Online series. He has always been an avid gamer and was one of the lucky few who got to beta-test Sword Art Online. This allowed him to understand some of the game before it was released, and this information helps him survive in the real Sword Art Online game. Kirito cares for others and even takes on the name beater, so the new Sword Art Online players have someone to blame about beta-testers not sharing information for the newbies. Kirito does seem a bit to overpowering for some people’s taste, but because of the setting of the anime it would be hard for him to not be. He is the only dual-sword user in Sword Art Online because of his speed stats, and he attempts to carry this skill with him through many different games. Kirito is kind and caring which draws many other female characters to him. My favorite part about Kirito is he actually acknowledges that these girls do have a crush on him, but he turns them down and only has eyes for Asuna. Kirito tends to play solo most of the time in the game. His greatest fear is losing someone he cares about in battle, and that fear never leaves him.

Asuna Yuuki:

Cute Asuna

Cute Asuna

Asuna Yuuki, also known as Lighting Flash Asuna for her speedy sword skill. Asuna is one of the new players that joins Sword Art Online and happens to partner with Kirito in the first dungeon. They split up after this batte, but Kirito tells Asuna to join a guild if she gets the chance. She later becomes the second in command of the strongest guild in Sword Art Online, Knights of the Blood. Asuna is a caring a gentle person, but isn’t afraid to get angry when necessary. At the beginning, Asuna has a hard time relaxing in Sword Art Online and focused all her attention on getting out of the game. She later learned to relax a bit because of Kirito. In Sword Art Online, She was able to max out the cooking skill, and that helped Asuna’s and Kirito’s relationship to grow stronger.

Yui is a program created for Sword Art Online to help people deal with their emotions in the game. She was unable to help anyone in the game because the game wouldn’t allow her to help players. Because she had only felt people’s sadness for a long time, Yui was drawn to the feelings of love and trust Asuna and Kirito had. This caused Yui to go find Kirito and Asuna, so she could feeling those feelings too. Asuna and Kirito grew attached to Yui and accepted her as their daughter. Yui is an adorable little girl who seems very naive when you first meet her. She becomes a great asset to the team in Alfheim.

Suguha Kirigaya:

Suguha Kirigaya becomes the main female lead in the second half of Sword Art Online. She has grown up all her life as Kirito’s little sister, but the two are actually cousins. Kirito’s parents died when he was younger, so he moved in with Sugu’s family. The two were close as children, but Sugu felt Kirito pull away from her as they grew up. Sugu has romantic feelings for her brother, but she has to accept that he will not love her back in the same way. Sugu is a bit of a hot head when people bother her. She has trouble hiding and dealing with emotions.

Plot: 10/10

I really enjoyed the plot of this anime. It is kind of created into two halves. The first half is about the characters getting out of Sword Art Online and the second half is about Kirito saving Asuna from Alfheim. The great part about this anime it doesn’t try and draw out the plot. There is a great balance between plot and fluff, so the characters aren’t constantly fighting and they aren’t just laying around. Like most anime, the thirteen episode plot is enough to give a solid story arc, and by putting two of them together into one season was just double the enjoyment.

Opening/Ending: 8/10

The opening of Sword Art Online, Crossing Field, and the opening of the Alfheim, Innocence, were both great openings. I personally liked Innocence better, but I probably did because my friend and I wrote English lyrics for the song. The endings of Sword Art Online were pretty good. There was nothing special about the endings though. I ranked this section a bit high because I also enjoyed the background music in the show, so that boosted the rating.

How well the anime fits the main genre(s) (Action/Adventure): 10/10

I believe this anime nailed these genres. There is plenty of adventure and action in this series. There were plenty of times I was on the edge of my seat rooting the character on as they fight.

Overall Opinion: 48/50

I really enjoyed this anime series. I don’t know if I got lucky because I got to watch this series when it was a simlucast, or if I got unlucky. I loved the tension the anime built between each episode. I fell in love with all the characters. The part that drew me to the show the most was the fight scenes. I really enjoyed how they were animated. This would be a series I would suggest to any anime or non-anime lover.

(Mai is on the left and Reo is on the right.)

Episode Count: 1 (OVA)

Year: 2010

Genre: Yuri, Hentai, Romance

You can watch it at: Dailymotion

Summary: The OVA, original video animation, is based of the visual novel series, Sono Hanabira, where it follows the romance between Mai Sawaguchi and Reo Kawamura. The story focuses on Reo being sick in bed and Mai helping Reo get better. It shows the strong bond between the two girls through emotion and physical moments of the girl’s lives.

As stated before in the genre, this OVA is a hentai. Viewers under the age of eighteen should be warned. This is a good anime if you want a little romance, a twinge of humor, and a lot of sex between two girls that love each other. This would not be the anime to watch if you want just yuri romance. I personally enjoyed this animation because I played the visual novels and liked this couple in particular. They are adorable together, and this OVA did not disappoint in keeping the characters true to the visual novels.

Animation: 7/10

The animation of this OVA is actually well done. It is not as good as normal anime, but it is a lot better than most hentai videos. The animators put a lot of care into the scene where Mai chases Reo into the open space where Reo confesses her love. Even the animation for the sex scenes are well done too. Overall the animation of this OVA was well done for a hentai, but below average for an anime.

Characters: 7.5/10

The two characters Reo and Mai do not get explained in this animation really. I might be a bit biased on this rating because I have played the visual novel and understand the characters in that sense. Although a lot about the characters is not explained, the audience can see that Reo and Mai have more of a connection that just sex. Mai and Reo care able each other, but like most teenagers, they also find it hard to stop the hormones coursing through their veins.

Main Characters:

Mai Sawaguchi:

Mai is seen as a kind girl friend to Reo as she attempts to help Reo get better from her cold. Although Reo is the one who confesses first, Mai is usually seen as the character that starts the sexual activity between these two. Mai likes to tease Reo because she knows that Reo is not always honest with herself, but she still is loving and caring towards Reo when it is needed. She seems to be the more dominate one in the relationship, and she seems to be the one that keeps the relationship steady.

Photo from the confession scene in the visual novel. (Reo is on the left, Mai is on the right)

Photo from the confession scene in the visual novel.
(Reo is on the left, Mai is on the right)

Reo Kawamura:

Reo is a tsundere. She often is not honest about her feelings, but Mai usually sees through her act. It is always easy to tell when Reo is being honest because there is a cute blush on her face. Although Reo is not always honest, when she sets her mind to do something she pulls through. This is seen as Reo confesses her feelings to Mai for the first time. Reo is easily embarrassed by Mai’s forward actions, but she usually ends up enjoying them in the end too. Reo is a cute tsundere character and the perfect fit for her counterpart.

Warning: The character descriptions will only hold information about these two characters from the OVA. I will probably write something about the visual novels at a later time in which I will talk about the characters more indepthly there.

Plot: 2/10

As mentioned before, most of this video is just sex scenes. The plot would be Mai coming over to help Reo but in the end the two end up having sex. It is cute in the end where Mai ends up sick in bed and Reo comes over to help Mai with her cold.

Opening/Ending: 3/10

There was no opening song to this animation. The ending song is a soft piano solo. It was cute and fit the soft romantic mood at the end of the OVA, but it was nothing special.

How well the anime fits the main genre(s) (Yuri/Hentai): 10/10

The anime was a decent yuri hentai. It defiantly captured the romance between the two girl characters and had plenty of nicely animated sex to make it a nice hentai too.

Overall Opinion: 29.5/50

I personally enjoyed this OVA because of the visual novels. It really brought the characters to life and added pleasant cute moments between the two. I would not suggest this OVA for just anyone to watch. It doesn’t really have anything but sex in it. There would be no meaning to someone who hasn’t play the visual novels, unless they knew the couple prior. It doesn’t have enough yuri romance to really appease a yuri lover either. This is a nice OVA for people who either enjoy yuri sex or people who enjoy the Sono Hanabira visual novels because no one can get enough of these two characters.

Episode Count: 12

Year: 2012

Genre: Comedy, Historical, Action, Romance, Slight Harem

You can watch it at: Crunchyroll

Summary: The Ambition of Oda Nobuna focuses on the civil war era of Japan. The main character, Yoshiharu Sagara, is a seventeen year old high school boy from modern japan taken back to the warring states era. He quickly realizes he is in the civil war era, and he is excited because he loves this era of Japan’s history. Back in modern times, Yoshiharu often enjoyed playing simulation games about the civil war era of Japan, so he knows all the details of the era. The one surprise that Yoshiharu faced was instead of Nobunaga Oda, the male daimyo who united Japan in Yoshiharu’s games, Yoshiharu met the female daimyo* of the Oda clan, Nobuna Oda. Yoshiharu quickly starts to offer his support to Nobuna, with the knowledge he has from playing the simulation games, to help her unite Japan.

*Daimyo: One of the great feudal lords who were vassals of the shogun. (According to Dictionary.com)

I would defiantly suggest this anime to anyone who enjoys action and history. The first few episodes are good at using humor to draw the audience into the anime. The romance builds between the two characters naturally, and the romance doesn’t randomly bloom. The harem aspect is small, and the main character is slightly perverted. If this would turn you away from the anime, the scenes don’t happen often, and I believe the anime itself is worth watching even if you force your way through those types of scenes. Although I do not know much about the warring era in Japan, I don’t know how accurate the anime is, but I believe that the anime strays from the actual history early on in the series.

Animation: 9/10

Nagahide Niwa being amazing

Nagahide Niwa being amazing

The animation in this anime was well done. The battle scenes were able to capture the action scenes nicely. The characters themselves are nicely drawn. The background scEndenes helped bring out the anime. The animation was a little better than average anime.

Characters: 9/10

The characters in the anime bring out the drama within the series. Although the different clans are fighting against each other, a good amount of the strategy involved is about people’s actions and reactions compared to the blood baths.

Main Characters:

Nobuna Oda

She is the diamyo and leader of the Oda clan. Her dream is to unite all of Japan and then Oda.Nobuna.(Oda.Nobuna.No.Yabou).full.1204868connect to and explore the world beyond Japan. Because of the horrible relationship Nobuna has with her mother, she considers all of her retainers* to be her real family. This causes her to care deeply for her friends, and it is hard for her to sacrifice anyone to accomplish her dreams. In the anime, Nobuna believes that anyone that she loves dies, so when Yoshiharu is put into danger and is said to be dead, Nobuna loses control and starts killing for revenge. It is interesting to watch as Nobuna grows with Yoshiharu by her side. She has always been a strong character, but the creators of this anime are good at showing her deeper feelings that usually hides behind her charade to seem strong.

Yoshiharu Sagara

He is the seventeen year old boy who finds himself in the warring era of Japan. Back in his own time,176233 he enjoyed playing Japanese simulation games about the warring era. Because of his obsessive game play, he knows what triggers good endings and bad endings. With his knowledge, he is capable of helping Nobuna achieve the dream she desires. When Yoshiharu tells Nobuna his name, he is deemed the nickname Monkey, and he is called that frequently throughout the whole series. As he spends more time with Nobuna, he is able to understand her feelings more and is able to help her stay true to herself. This is also a problem because as he connects more with Nobuna, Nobuna grows more attached to him and begins to deem his safety a higher priority than her dream. Yoshiharu is an important character in this series because of his knowledge of the era, and his power to guide Nobuna in the right direction.

Favorite Character:

Nagahide Niwa: Niwa.Nagahide.full.1260798

Nagahide is the highest ranked retainer to Nobuna. She is intelligent and loyal. She always wants what is best for Nobuna and tries her hardest to allow Nobuna’s dream to come true. She is also good at relieving tension in the group and is a pit playful. Although she is beautiful, she is also a ruthless fighter and a great tactician. I enjoy as she uses a point system to reveal her thoughts about a situation. I believe the anime would not be the same without her.

*Retainer: A personal adviser

Plot: 10/10

The plot of the anime is straight forward. Everything is well explained to help the audience understand what is going on in the anime. There was good plot development and everything made sense. The ending of the anime was really intense. I had to finish the anime to know what happened after every cliff hanger.

Opening/Ending: 7/10

The opening song for the anime was exciting, although it wasn’t good enough to not skip because the anime was so inciting to watch. The ending was good too. In general both the ending and opening were average.

How well the anime fits the main genre(s) (History): 8/10

The anime fit the genre. The historical aspect obviously was a bit skewed. Many characters were not killed during specific points and most of the male warriors were turned female. Although the history was off, the anime still was exciting and fun to watch.

Overall Opinion: 43/50

I really enjoyed this anime the first time I saw it. I ended up binge watching it in a whole night. The characters are all lovable and are fun to watch as they interact with each other. I enjoy watching historical anime because I find history to be interesting. The strategy and thought put into each action that the characters did made the anime exciting. My favorite part about this anime is at the beginning it draws you in with humor and semi-deep plot, and then at the end it makes the anime more intense that keeps you from stopping.
